On February 9, the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) Pilot Programme on Climate Resilience (PPCR) Improving Climate Data and Information Management Project (ICDIMP) and the UWI Climate Studies Group Mona will jointly launch the 2015 State of the Jamaican Climate Report as a signature event of the 2017 UWI Research Days.
The Research Days will run from February 7 to 9 on the Mona Campus under the theme, Powering Development through Partnerships in Research and Innovation.
The report is an update to the 2012 edition, and will provide a concise overview of data and information about Jamaica’s climate. The team has assessed historical climatic trends and produced climate projections. The report is intended as a first reference point with respect to climate information on parameters such as rainfall, temperature, sea level rise and solar radiation.
In her remarks at the launch, Academic Lead of the UWI Mona Research Days, Dr Denise Eldemire Shearer, recognised the PIOJ as an event partner for the third consecutive year. The PIOJ Vision 2030 Jamaica team will also participate in the Research Village across the three days, highlighting the global Sustainable Development Goals.
