LAUNCH – PLAN OF ACTION IN SUPPORT OF REINTEGRATION & RESETTLEMENT OF INVOLUNTARY RETURNED MIGRANTS
Start Date/Time: Tuesday, 25 April 2017 9:30 AM
End Date/Time: Tuesday, 25 April 2017 12:00 PM
Recurring Event: One time event
Description:

The Government of Jamaica (GOJ) will be launching a Plan of Action (PoA) in support of the reintegration and resettlement of forced returnees/deportees/ Involuntary Returned Migrants (IRMs) on April 25, 2017, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, at Hotel Four Seasons.

In recent times there has been a great deal of media highlight on the forced return of undocumented Jamaicans living abroad for several years. Forced returnees have been generally stigmatized as criminals, which makes their reintegration difficult and this often leads to them being marginalized. The GOJ has sought to mitigate the adverse effects of involuntary return migration through the provision of support as reflected under donor supported mechanisms such as the Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Offenders and Deported Persons Programme (2008–2014) and the Draft National Return and Reintegration Policy document, both under the purview of the Ministry of National Security.
