PIOJ Among Partners Honoured by Kingston Creative on its Donor Mural

The PIOJ was among companies that were honoured on July 24 for its five years of support to Kingston Creative, the NGO that provides opportunities for artists and artisans living and operating in Kingston.

Kingston Creative unveiled a collage mural with the names of its donors. The mural, which evokes the image of a flourishing tree, is located at the north west corner of Church Street and Water Lane.

PIOJ Technical Specialist, Socio-Economic Development in the Community Renewal Programme (CRP), Charmaine Brimm, represented the PIOJ at the unveiling. Ms Brimm said, “This has been a fruitful partnership for the PIOJ through the CRP. Our role of coordinating and monitoring the training and business incubation activities has supported participants to find opportunities that create value for themselves, right here in their communities.”

The CRP, through Kingston Creative, is reaching five communities in Kingston, Denham Town, Majesty Gardens, Trench Town, Parade Gardens and Fletchers Land, through the Downtown Kingston Orange Economy Community Capacity Building Programme.

The CRP also commissioned the mapping of the Orange Economy downtown to include entrepreneurs, and skilled artists and artisans in 19 CRP communities, in Downtown Kingston. The programme is ensuring that programmes, services and benefits that are provided through Kingston Creative reach persons who live and operate in the city.

Noting that Kingston was established 332 years before in July, Executive Director of Kingston Creative, Andrea Dempster Chung, thanked the donors for their confidence in its projects that are geared towards sustainable national development. She also used the opportunity of the donor mural to launch a place-making programme towards expanding the Art Walk programme across the eight blocks around Water Lane.

PIOJ participated in the unveiling of the Kingston Creative Donor Wall on July 24 on Church Street, noting that the partnership over the past five years had been fruitful. The PIOJ performs a role in coordinating and monitoring training and business incubation activities of Kingston Creative and has also mapped the Orange Economy of downtown, ensuring that programmes, services and benefits provided through Kingston Creative reach persons who live and operate in the city.
