PIOJ Library Open Online

March 24, 2020

The national socioeconomic reference library of the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), the Wesley Hughes Documentation Centre, continues to offer access to information online. The COVID-19 outbreak has caused many libraries to close their doors to walk-in library users. However, this closure has not prevented the PIOJ from offering valuable service to its users. Users are encouraged to visit the PIOJ website, click on the Ask the Librarian link, where a consortium of government and some university librarians will engage users in online chat.

Government and private sector workers are encouraged to tap into this information service platform via the use of smartphones, tablets and desktop computers. This online reference service gives the public access to a variety of research material; electronic books and reference material; chat in real time from anywhere in the world; and guidance within 24 hours.

This chat session gives access to credible, current and reliable data from the Economic and Social Survey Jamaica, Jamaica Survey of Living Conditions, as well as other publications from the PIOJ and other Ministries, Departments and Agencies. Additional information requests will be satisfied using databases such as EbscoHost, World Bank eLibrary, JSTOR and many others.
