GOJ/Adaptation Fund Programme Awards Contract for Shoreline Protection Works

On October 12, 2020 the GOJ/Adaptation Fund Programme (GOJ/AFP) signed a contract with YP Seaton & Associates Company Limited in the sum of Forty Million Nine Hundred and Forty Eight Thousand, Six Hundred Dollars (J$40 948 600.00) for shoreline protection works along the North Eastern coast of Jamaica. This activity will be carried out in partnership with the National Works Agency and the National Environment and Planning Agency.

A key objective of the GOJ/AFP is to safeguard the environment by increasing the climate resilience of our vulnerable communities. The scope of works to be completed under the contract include a composite revetment and retaining wall. The revetments are designed to attenuate wave energy and prevent wave breaking on the shoreline thereby lessening erosion of the roadway, while the concrete wall is designed to reduce overtopping and shield the coastal cliff from wave energy.

The project site is located along the A4 main road in the town of Buff Bay, Portland, which is a critical pathway for the community. The construction period is four months.
